Down Under Bunkers is a proudly Indigenous, Queensland-based, family-owned business located in the township of Dalby. Over the past four years, our team has dedicated itself to designing and developing a fire-certified fully underground bunker system, a first of its kind in Australia.
Our innovative underground fire bunkers are protected by a worldwide design patent, with additional patents currently being established across Australia and other international regions for manufacturing. The name Down Under Bunkers reflects both our Australian heritage and the underground nature of our designs — a true representation of safety, strength, and innovation “down under.”
These bunkers are engineered for fire protection, emergency shelter, and secure storage. They are structurally and mechanically designed to ensure continuous fresh air circulation 24 hours a day, powered by solar panels and battery systems for complete off-grid operation. The top of each unit is approximately one metre below ground level, with an internal height of around 2.8 metres, providing a spacious and safe environment.
While primarily designed for bushfire safety, our bunkers can also serve as emergency shelters, first-aid storage units, or secure spaces during extreme weather or other emergencies. Research shows that over 90% of homes lost in bushfires are destroyed due to embers, not direct flame contact. Our bunkers are designed to offer a safe refuge in such conditions — however, official evacuation remains the safest option whenever possible.

Our design process ensures compliance with structural integrity, ventilation, and fire resistance requirements set by Australian regulatory bodies.
